Weight Loss After Pregnancy Tips
One question all women want answering is how quickly they can look forward to having their old shape and weight back after pregnancy. Obviously just how much you lose after the birth will depend on how much the baby weighs and that of the amniotic fluid and placenta.
As hormone levels in the woman’s body return a level of normality she will begin to lose more pounds but you have to remember that around an extra 7 pounds of fat are put on during her pregnancy.
Energy is stored in this excess fat ready for breast feeding the baby but how quickly each woman loses weight is dependent on factors like genetics, the mother’s health, how much exercise they get and the type of food they eat.
As it took all of nine months to put on the weight you cannot expect it all to disappear as soon as the baby is born. For a few women, those last few pounds they are desperate to shed may have to wait until after they have stopped breastfeeding their baby as this is natures way of ensuring the child receives all the milk it requires.
However, nutrition specialists are able to provide healthy diet plans and with regular physical activity there is no reason why you shouldn’t get back to your normal size and weight. It is true to say that the majority of women will in fact get back to this stage within the year providing they behave as far as their food intake and exercise activities are concerned. Unfortunately, it is those women that lose it within the first three months that give false expectations to other mothers.
Many physical adjustments are made by each woman’s body after birth which can hinder weight loss after pregnancy. This is one good reason if you want to achieve weight loss after pregnancy then you must take things steady and not try to rush, especially if you wish to stay healthy.
Anyway, your doctor might well advise you to wait a while before you start your weight loss after pregnancy so you will have sufficient energy and resources to feed your baby as at the start it will be an ongoing twenty four hours a day job.
It may take 6 months or more after a pregnancy for the average mother’s weight loss to bring her body back to its usual metabolic rate along with the return of the normal amount of hormones that were present prior to conception but it is also important to remember that motherhood may produce some permanent changes.
Most women will put anywhere between 25 to 35 pounds or more during pregnancy although once they have given birth they will lose anything up to 14 pounds.
Although this weight loss after pregnancy is almost immediate, there is still a long way to go with perhaps another 21 pounds or so to lose but it needs to be done slowly perhaps even up to nine months.
