The Curse of Cellulite

A curse to many women, cellulite is formed close to the skin surface and produces a number of wrinkled fat cells intermixed with the connective tissue and produces that strange ‘orange peel’ effect most of us have witnessed.

Most women carry excess fats in thighs and buttocks, but cellulite is not confined to the overweight as it is in actuality, the lumpy substance that looks more like cottage cheese that forms beneath the skin.

As the collection of fats push against the connective tissue, it tends to cause the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and visually look lumpy; giving you what is referred to as cellulite. It may still be some time before medical science arrives at a definitive reason for why some people are more prone to cellulites than others but it may have something to do with how toxins are held in the cells of some people.

Two components of skin wrinkles that decrease with age are elastin and collagen, both of which may be responsible for the increase of cellulite as women age. Whilst many would disagree, cellulites are often referred to a hormone imbalance problem as men almost never suffer with this condition.

Even women who do not appear to have cellulites may have them and sometimes this is visible when the skin is compressed as in the case of squatting or when it is pinched between the thumb and forefinger; however as most women suffer with at some stage it seems to be a perfectly normal condition.

Although it is not know what causes cellulites, some factors seem to contribute to its build up including age, sex, extra fat carried and skin thickness all seem to aid the formation.

Currently there isn’t one single treatment that can rid a person of cellulites because the cause has remained elusive despite considerable research into the area. Some specialty clinics that specialize on cellulite removal simply apply deep massaging to puff up the skin and temporarily reduce the cellulite’s appearance.

Another technique used to remove cellulite, but not that successfully, is liposuction which is used to remove excess fat in the body but a method called mesotherapy which injects chemicals into the fat cells is still too expensive for most people. The problem is liposuction is not designed for removing this type of fat but for deeper fat and not that stuck in connective tissue so cannot claim to be a best treatment fro the condition.

A number of cosmetic manufacturers claim their creams are an effective method of cellulite removal but it would seem these are just a method of making the condition less visible and as yet no definitive treatment exists. So far the best method is back to basics combining a healthy diet with exercise that gradually burns off the fat but not the connective tissue the cellulite is found it.

If this is also followed by the adoption of drinking plenty of fresh water every day; unwanted toxins which can help in the formation of cellulite in the tissue are gradually removed.
