Striae – Causes and Removal
Many of individuals all over the world have to deal with strech marks. Both males and females will find them appearing after periods of significant growth such as puberty. Women, of course, suffer with them after pregnancy.
They occur as our skin tries to maintain its expansion with the rate of growth in the bones, muscles or, in the case of pregnancy, baby. Invariably however, it fails to do so and tiny splits form in the middle layer of skin, referred to as the Dermis. These tears appear as red streaks initially and fade gradually to a silvery colour.
The stretch marks in actual fact are areas of skin with reduced levels of collagen. As the dermis is ripped in two during the growth phase, it fails to restore itself so that it appears like its former state. Of course, it is only a cosmetic concern as there is little or no medical downside to having these marks, the cosmetic concerns, however, are great. They make you feel self concious in front of people and don’t look very nice.
To remove stretch marks involves increasing the levels of collagen within the Dermis layer of skin. This is most effectively achieved by enhancing your own bodies natural ability to produce collagen rather than introducing it from alternative sources. The most common technique for doing this is medical needling using a dermaroller, which is a type of collagen induction therapy.
