  • Low-fiber diet

Are you fond of eating processed food or those that contain too much salt and sugar? Eating food with very little amount of fiber can cause external hemorrhoids. Fiber which can be found in fruits and vegetables are needed by the body in order to function regularly especially in cleaning the digestive system. The lack of fiber in your diet can harden stool, affect bowel movement, and leave fecal matter to cling in the walls of the large intestine.

  • Constipation and poor bowel movement

Do you often prevent yourself from defecating even when nature calls? This can result to constipation or hardening of stool which are very difficult to eliminate. Oftentimes, you have to strain, exert more pressure, and stay longer in the toilet in order for the stool to get out. This can make blood vessels swell, produce bleeding in the anus, and eventually result to external hemorrhoids.

  • Lack of exercise

Too much work can make you too busy for exercise. The lack of exercise is a common cause of external hemorrhoids. Prolonged standing or sitting in a hard surface for hours can put pressure on your bottom. However, if you walk for a few minutes a day, you can improve digestion and speed up your body’s metabolism.

  • Insufficient fluids intake

Do you often experience difficulty in eliminating your body wastes? If yes, then your stool must be dry and hard due to the insufficient amount of water or fresh fruit and vegetable juices in your body. Insufficient fluid intake is a major cause of external hemorrhoids since you have to strain and stretch the rectum wide to get rid of wastes.

  • Incorrect cleaning and wiping of the rectum

After defecating, it is important to clean the rectal area thoroughly to remove remaining dirt and smell. Most of us often use soap but studies proved that soap contains irritants that can affect hemorrhoids. Another bad habit that we need to stop is wiping the rectum hard with tissue paper or a towel.
