Sperm Donation Maybe The Answer

Published by at 3:25 am under Pregnancy Planed or Not

There is nothing new about sperm donation as it has been practiced for many years as a method to help a person conceive, sometimes for free but more commonly it is for a fee.

Dating back over fifty years, sperm donation is still a simple reproductive process. Sperm donation is used when another male has a non-existent sperm count and nowadays is an excepted form of treatment to aid conception.

Sperm donation is also becoming increasingly popular, especially with recent increases in male infertility rate although it is not always successful and multiple treatments might have to be performed. Ultimately, the use of sperm donation is for women who want to be mothers even if they do not have a partner.

Unfortunately, there are couples that are unable to conceive naturally and sperm donation has helped them to enjoy the pleasures of parenting.

Some women are lucky and a relation is able to donate sperm but this cannot always be done if there is a genetic medical problem within the family. Many women want to feel the child grow inside them and know it as their own so do not look at adoption and are happy to have sperm donation. Some men who are undergoing chemotherapy to cure germ-cell tumors or hematological malignancies are routinely offered the option of sperm donation to offset the chance that they may not be able to father a child at a later date.

No longer just a medical matter, sperm donation is now related to the law and ethics and no doubt will become more complicated. Many young now see sperm donation as just a way to earn money easily because when you think that a specimen is worth around 0 it’s more lucrative than giving blood. Egg and sperm donation is big business because of course there would be no fertility industry to speak of without them. Unlike sperm donation, which is a relatively quick and simple process, egg donation may require a series of injections.

The sperm donation process for procreation use ejaculated and washed spermatozoa, inserted in the uterus or in vitro.

The laws relating to sperm, egg or embryo donation vary dramatically across the world as do the laws relating to donor anonymity. The problem will not go away, however if childless couples cannot adopt nor have sperm or egg donation then it could lead to a decrease in the population.

Someone statistically has got to be unlucky as there are thirty-seven inherited diseases in newborns that need the two biological parents to be on hand for check-ups and/or cures – so the practise of anonymous donorship is a dangerous ideal to promote.

I write this with regret as I know how much nine months gestation can mean.
